Asset Classes

There are four main asset classes all with different associated risks and returns.

1 - Securities, includes shares in companies, options and futures.

2 - Fixed-Income This class includes assets that earn a fixed income, Interest-bearing debt instruments (bonds). Long-term bank deposits, and loans.

3 - Cash, currency available in a bank account. Coins or notes.

4 - Real Estate includes direct investments (cash or joint venture) and non-direct investments. (Property Companies trading on the stock market, Banks of Building Societies and REIT's

A Portfolio is when there's an investment in two or more different asset classes.

Real Estate is an important asset class to consider if you want to obtain diversification benefits.

These benefits include a potentially different risk and return profile when compared with other asset classes.
