Decent Housing and Affordable Prices for Everyone

On the 21st of January 2021, a document was approved in the European Parliament, regarding the process Nr. 2019/2187 (INI), which aims, to guarantee access to housing for all citizens of the European Union.

In the same document, member states are asked to invest in Social Housing in order to guarantee an adequate standard of living for their citizens.

It is called for the eradication of the homeless in the European territory by the year 2030.

It can be read that the phenomenon of homelessness is increasing in at least 24 Member States, and that every night about 700,000 homeless people have to sleep in shelters or on the street. This number corresponds to an increase of 70% in the last ten years. It advises member states to take serious measures, including state aid measures to create the necessary conditions and support investment in social housing.

Portugal is one of the countries in the European Union that offers less Social Housing for its citizens. Let's see if the recommendations made by the European parliament, will take effect in Portugal and in the other member states in the coming years. Social Housing can and should become yet another segment of the Real Estate market, with new and different business opportunities. More details can be found in the following link:
