It was almost two years ago, (June 2018) when the city of Lisbon, in Portugal, has announced the winner of the European Green Capital Award (EGCA) for 2020.
The distinction is based on 12 sustainable indicators that were identified in the city. It recognises and rewards local efforts to improve the environment, the economy and the quality of life in cities.
The decision was made public by Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
